We’ve known for a while that this is coming, now there’s an announcement on the official site. Here you can see that the Deluxe version of the sims 2 includes the original game, the nightlife expansion and a ‘bonus’ dvd which probably isn’t going to have anything on it that we didn’t already know.

According to the official site, Maxis/EA are hosting an official chat for the upcoming Seasons expansion on February 15th at 2:30pm PST. This will be an informational chat which will include information in regards to the new expansion, what it will have/add to gameplay and many interesting facts. The long-awaited patch for bodyshop has been released by Maxis today. A nice little surprise especially this close to Christmas.

Gamespot has published an article covering Sims3 as well as Sims for the PS3 and WII.

During the same call, Jenson also confirmed that several sequels to EA’s most important franchises are in the works. “Yes, there’s a Sims 3 in development and it’s likely to be a fiscal ‘09 title,” said Jenson, meaning the game would hit stores before April 2009. The executive also confirmed that the Sims franchises will also be coming to two next-generation platforms–the Wii and the PlayStation 3.

“There is a Sims title that is being specifically developed for the Wii platform,” said Jenson. “The Sims II holiday edition on PS3″ is also coming, said the executive, indicating the game will arrive either in the 2006 or 2007 holiday season.

callum91 pointed out that there is a new option on the EA site for something called The Sims 2 Life Stories. You can see the image he saved here:

Also, he has pointed out that MaxoidMel has confirmed this on the BBS - however posters are prohibited from speaking about it as of yet. In this BBS post MaxoidMel states:

Many of you have noticed that the EA.com Web site has put “The Sims Life Stories” in their registration drop down. Yes, this game does exist and there will be more information to share about this game in the future. Please do not continue to post off topic messages about this game at this time.

There are three different versions of this years Holiday Stuff; The Sims 2 Holiday Edition, The Sims 2 Happy Holiday Stuff and The Sims 2 Happy Holiday Mini Pack (the mini pack is for those of you who bought the 2005 Holiday Edition or Stuff Pack). The Mini Pack has 20 new items and outfits with both a more traditional Scandanavian and Asian theme. Check out pictures and videos at the Official Holiday Site and then go chat about it in our forums here…

Well, it seems as though we’ve come to the end of an era. I’ve taken to digging around the BBS a little more often (as much as it pains me to!) in hopes of digging up new, interesting information. Today I’ve come across something on the sad side.

For those who have read some of my previous posts, I always refer the the company that creates, markets and sells The Sims 2 as EA/Maxis, while most simply refer to the makers of TS2 as Maxis. As most everyone knows Maxis was purchased by EA Games, and run as a division of EA since it’s purchase in 1997. So while Maxis has long been a part of EA, it was allowed to keep a certain level of existence. However the other day I noticed something, Maxis seems to be no more. The Maxis logo is no longer at the bottom of this Website, and http://www.Maxis.com now redirects to http://thesims.ea.com/. It seems that Maxis is now gone forever.

You can read the entire thread here. I think it’s really too bad and we have more negative changes to look forward to. They’ve already started the slippery slide of creating a massive money making machine (where there already was one) with the addition of Stuff Packs. I’m sure those of you from the MMORPG communities remember what became of EverQuest after Sony took over Verant Interactive completely.

You can discuss this on our forums where user simaster8 has already started a thread in regards to it.

I found this BBS post that mentions the new In Season information found here. The poster has kindly provided a translation text, which reads

“Give you’re [sic] sims a break and weed them out of the house! This new ep to the sims 2 make you’re [sic] sims able to go outside, where they can let them self out in the seasons activities, like snowball war,(something i don’t know what is) and games like Marco Polo and much more. They can paddle around in the spring rain, fish in they’re own ponds and grow rare fruits with unexpected outcomes. Whether you build them a winter cottage or a summer hut, will they enjoy every seasons.”

Of course at this point it’s still all conjecture. We won’t know anything for sure until Maxis “officially” announces it, even if more concrete leaks happen prior (like how we were all “in the know” about Pets before they spoke up).

I’ve just found another BBS post which claims this is an insert with the Pets expansion

I guess we’ll find out if this is true in a few days!

Discuss this on our forums

Can Pets go in cars? Will you be able to breed small dogs and big dogs together? Can Sims make a living out of breeding pets? Can a Sim be both a vampire and a werewolf at the same time? Are There Any New Lifetime Wants????

All of these questions and more were answered by the Maxoids in a Live Chat held this afternoon.

The first order of business is in regards to the sims 2 mobile game (yes, you can have sims on your cell phone as well!

Who said there was no-one playing mobile phone games? It seems that some of you are!

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world’s leading interactive entertainment software company, today announced that The Sims(TM) 2 has reached more than 1 million fans in Europe who have downloaded the game onto their mobiles within the first seven months of release.

Secondly, a partnership has been made to bring sims 2 and pogo.com games to inflight entertainment.

After watching the Pets Producer video, I’ll bet you’re wondering how to keep pets from destroying your simmies homes. The last issue of the Pets Training Paper showed us how to create new pets, this issue is all about how to train and build relationships with your pet.

Learned or Reinforced Behaviors
Start with the basics. There is no point trying to teach Prince to play dead if he isn’t even potty-trained. Teaching Sim pets acceptable behaviors is the first step in helping them get along with their Sim families. These behaviors include where to relieve their bladders, what foods to eat, and more.

Wondering where to pre-order your copy of the new Pets expansion to ensure you get an exclusive pre-order bonus? Well the official site has put up a page and promises to keep it updated if more bonuses become available. See it here.

For those not already in the know, GameStop and CompUSA are offering the bandit cat while amazon offers the purple pug we talked about earlier. There has been much discussion on our forums as to how these pre-order bonuses will be available after seeing this from Maxis

After you purchase the game you’ll receive a code plus directions letting you know how to use the code to unlock the pet within the game itself (this is not a downloadable item). This special offer is only available for a limited time while supplies last, so buy your copy of The Sims 2 Pets and secure your exclusive pet today!

Feel free to share your thoughts on this - but please remember that discussing ways to illegally obtain things is not permitted.

I know, I know - you’ve been hearing about this for days already. However, thanks (once again!) to callum91 of our forums, I’m bringing you some interesting information from a new article!

New Zealand’s EAplay site has an article about the Pets soundtrack you can read, but the interesting part is what was noticed near the very end of the article:

The Sims 2 Pets will be available on October 17, 2006 on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube™ and as a PC expansion pack(1) that builds on the original The Sims 2 PC game experience. Versions for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), Game Boy® Advance and Nintendo DS™ systems will follow in late October and November. A mobile version will be coming soon.

Sims 2 Pets on your cell phone? Sounds like it could be a reality! Chat about it on our forums

Thanks to callum91 of our forums, we have some new information. As has been the case with the pre-order items for various expansions you are given a code and a url to go to which allows you to download said bonus item. However, with the Pets expansion they’re changing things up a bit!

As quoted from the order info on the official site:

Purchase The Sims 2 Pets from one of the retailers above to unlock an exclusive pet for your Sims! After you purchase the game you’ll receive a code plus directions letting you know how to use the code to unlock the pet within the game itself (this is not a downloadable item). This special offer is only available for a limited time while supplies last, so buy your copy of The Sims 2 Pets and secure your exclusive pet today!

higgins534 pointed out on our forums that there’s finally somewhat more official news about the holiday pack. sims2.se has a little blurb about it and a couple cover art pictures. It looks like once again the base game will be sold with the holiday pack included. The official site (in english) has also added a little blurb on their front page. Of course, in true maxian style we are just told to stay tuned for more information. As we’ve known for a while, the release date for this is supposed to be November 7th - of course this could change.

It’s also been brought to my attention that another little slip happened recently - apparently there’s rumblings of a new “The Sims2: In Season” item. The Maxoids have denied this in the official bbs thread regarding it - the thread is now locked. However, one has to wonder if it was just a blunder and is in the very least a working title. However, as you can see in the screenshot I took EA let the cat out of the bag - see it yourself (until it’s removed) here.

Maybe we’ll get weather that works properly (and not indoors) after all! It would be amazing to have properly working seasons in the game.

Discuss the upcoming holiday pack on our forums. The in season blunder can also be discussed here.

It seems the story keeps changing on a daily basis. Today we have a blog update by MaxoidMoonBelly stating:

For those of you who saw my bbs post this past weekend, I just wanted to say that I made a mistake with the information that I have given out - I am truly sorry for misleading people, I didn’t have all my facts straight at all !!!! Hang in there !!!!

So we’ll have to see what’s to come with the whole “The Sims 2: Get a Life Edition”, feel free to discuss this on our Get a Life thread

callum91 brought it to our attention today that he’s found a page regarding the expansion pack combo that was supposed to be available this month. Dick Smith Electronics has it available on their website, you can see it here simply titled Sims 2 Expansion 4 pack. It’s priced at NZ $118 and claims to include University, Nightlife, Open for Business and Family Fun. It doesn’t seem to include the base game but it may - it’s hard to tell with the information given on that page.

Of course this gives us a little more mystery in regards to the ‘Get A Life’ edition that’s to come next year. You can talk about this new expansion pack bundle on our forums.

A few days ago we shared some new information with you regarding an interesting new Sims2 product appearing, called “The Sims 2: Get a Life”. At the time, online retailers including this item on their product pages had a release date of September 29th. MaxoidMoonBelly even confirmed this as being an EA/Maxis product and not just a rumour - saying more information would be forthcoming. We all waited with expectation, as it seemed very odd to the majority of us that this extra title was popping up right in between a stuff pack and an upcoming expansion pack. People thought that perhaps Maxis was trying to give us too much too fast.

Well, today I discovered that South Africa based Take2 has The Sims 2: Get A Life Edition listed as available to pre-order with an expected date of February 6th 2007 and not the first reported date of September 29th.

Still in the air is exactly what this is. It could be an upcoming expansion or some sort of multi-pack including the base game and some or all of the expansions and/or stuff packs released. It could be a stuff pack, but most of them seem to have the word ’stuff’ in the title, so the odds of that are much lower. We’ll all have to wonder until we have the official word from Maxis.

For now, feel free to discuss this in the currently ongoing thread in our forums: Get A Life Discussion

There’s rumor of another Sims 2 product that has a release date of Sept 29th 2006. So what is this release? Well, the Australian game store GameHead has this product with only a date and price listed - both The Sims Zone and Planet The Sims have articles linking to the product listing.

But is this just a rumor or a real release from EA/Maxis?

MaxoidMoonBelly had this to say:
“hello! It is a legitimate EA/Sims product, more information will be coming out soon.”

The full thread at the TheSims2 site can be read here.
