Sims2 Pets for the PSP was just recently released, the last system to get this version of the game. Gamespot has done a review of the PSP version, which doesn’t come without problems. According to them, the loading times frequently disrupt consistency in gameplay and Pet management is very hard to do in a regular sim day. They also mention there’s a very limited neighborhood size and only a single downtown lot. They do however say the sims AI in this version is the best console one to date, giving a more authentic sims experience.
The Sims series started on the PC as a popular and difficult-to-describe strategy game that let you control the lives of little computer people in the houses you built for them, as they loved, grew old, had families, and occasionally used the potty. Seven years, several different game platforms, and numerous editions later, the series has become known for offering zany humor, colorful graphics, a gibberish language that its “sim” characters speak (known as “simlish”), and cheerful music. However, the console versions of the Sims games never quite stacked up to the PC version, mainly because the console games tended to focus on collection-based minigames and unlocking hidden items. Also, they never seemed to capture the autonomous, unpredictable artificial intelligence that powered those happy little sims in the PC versions. However, The Sims 2: Pets for the PlayStation Portable is a full-featured port of the console versions of the same game with most of the content intact, including better AI for its sim characters. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to enjoy because the game constantly stops dead in its tracks with load times.
Well boys and girls, the inteenimater is finally released for public consumption! Download your copy from the inteenimater site!
The long-awaited patch for bodyshop has been released by Maxis today. A nice little surprise especially this close to Christmas.
This patch allows the Body Shop that came with The Sims 2 Pets Expansion Pack to be compatible with previous Expansion Packs.
If you wish you can now help beta test The Inteenimater - but be warned as this is a beta test the current version is, as it stands, completely untested. It’s advised you back up your game before playing around with this. You do need to register on the forum to participate in the beta testing.
Please make sure you read The Rules of the Beta and don’t just jump in and throw the hack in your game - you could cause severe problems in doing so.
A few important notes from the beta rules:
# You should be computer literate and understand basic operation of your computer and its file system. If your computer experience amounts to, “Just click the little desktop icon,” this beta is not for you.
# You must be prepared to remove all custom content from your game except the InTeenimater when asked.
# You must be willing to offer up your sims and neighborhoods as burnt offerings to the cause. While I do not anticipate this would ever be the case, your game data files may be irreparably junked during the beta process and you should be comfortable with scrubbing your game and starting over.
# You must be fluent with the functionality of the InTeenimater. This means you must actually have Read The Frackin’ Manual. The purpose of this beta is to expose and repair bugs. Moreover, this is not a general support forum - and you will receive none here. Moderators have been given instructions to kill any post which is not directly related to the beta testing of the Pets Edition. No exceptions.
# You should be a competent user of The Sims 2 and possess a solid understanding of the game and have the ability to install and remove custom content. You should be familiar with the cheat/debug console (especially the boolProp cheats). You should understand how to trap a jump bug, acquire log files, and attach them to your posts (see the forum FAQ for instructions on how to do this).
As I’m sure most of you know, along with wonderful furry friends and critters, the Pets expansion has brought with it some more vermin. Unfortunately, getting rid of it is not as easy as calling the exterminator.
Perhaps the biggest problem is the fact that any bodyshop items made with Pets installed are not backwards compatible. Meaning, unless you have pets - even things that aren’t “pets required” specifically, aren’t going to work properly in your game. Thankfully Numenor has made a “Legacy Bodyshop” that enables creators to make bodyshop items with Pets installed and not have to worry about non-pets users being unable to use the item.
The other issues include the fact that Pets bodyshop will package meshes for clothing and hair with any sims you package, custom accessories fail to display correctly in game, werewolf skins won’t show up properly where custom skins are used on sims as well as a few other things.
You can read more about them along with links to various fixes and work around here in our modding discussion forum on MTS2.
Firstly, if you haven’t seen it or been yet - check it out! The Sims2Wiki hosts everything you ever wanted to know about the game and more. From cheat codes to extensive lists of available custom content to the reason for this update … codes for the unlockables within the new Pets expansion!
As you know, there were three exclusive pre-order breeds- a Star Dalmation, a Bandit Cat and a Purple Pug. Instead of the ‘enter your code here to download this’ bonus that usually comes with expansions, these ones were to be entered in the game. They were also multiple-use and you were encouraged to share them with your friends. It turns out there’s lots of unlockables within the game, 46 to be exact - dog and cat furs (in funky, crazy colours) and adorable dog and cat collars.
So what are you waiting for?! Get your unlock codes now!
Well by now some of you have pets, some of you don’t. For those who don’t, maybe this will tide you over. The third edition of the Pets Training Paper is now available with lots of new little tidbits.
We’ve got The Sims 2 Pets on all of your favorite gaming devices. There’s something for every gamer, so check out these highlights to see the unique adventures and mischievous fun that each variation offers.
emino posted to let us know that Pets has been released in Malaysia and he picked up his copy today. He’s happy to take picture requests and other things you’d like to know about the expansion before you get it in your hot little hands. Feel free to post on the thread with your questions/requests
Gamedaily.com has written what the official site is calling the first review of pets.
For anyone who’s already addicted to the ‘The Sims 2,’ ‘Pets’ is an engaging add-on that keeps the game fresh. Who knows — adding a virtual menagerie of pets to a Sims family just might offer the same mood-enhancement as a real-life pet, minus the shedding and allergies.
According to this thread on the forums:
People in Brazil are buying The Sims 2 Pets! It’s released there!
They’re posting pics at:
http://www.osimbr.netThis fansite is updating every time with new pics!
Thanks to pprmarques for the heads up!
This post on the BBS has lots and lots of spoilers from the Prima Guide on how to do different things in the Pets expansion. Secondly, it does look like Brazil got pets first, check out their pets event. Lastly you can see the sims 2 pets icon here.
callum91 pointed out to me that there’s a whole bunch of new pictures in this BBS Thread. Pictures include a pet birthday, pregnancy notice, the skunk and a lot of the new items!
Can Pets go in cars? Will you be able to breed small dogs and big dogs together? Can Sims make a living out of breeding pets? Can a Sim be both a vampire and a werewolf at the same time? Are There Any New Lifetime Wants????
All of these questions and more were answered by the Maxoids in a Live Chat held this afternoon.
MaxoidGrant Fear the pets, destroyers of all.
Check out the transcripts here… and talk about it in our forums.
I know you’ve all read the rumours about Hillary Duff and her dog being in the Pets expansion - well, it was made official today and now we have a picture to share with you! Click on the image for a larger one

“I’ve logged hundreds of hours playing The Sims games, so I jumped at the chance to be in The Sims 2 Pets,” said Sims aficionado Hilary. “I love creating Sims characters and guiding them through life, designing their houses and then blinging them out with cool furniture. Now, in The Sims 2 Pets, EA has combined two things I really enjoy - pets and The Sims!”

As he looks pretty … well, Teen Wolf scary.
Thanks to j3nni for posting the image.
callum91 pointed out that Thesims2.co.ukhas an interview up regarding the console edition of the game.
At the recent The Sims 2 Pets event we were lucky enough to sit down with both Charles Normann and Hunter Howe, producers on the Console and PC versions of The Sims 2 Pets respectively! We’ll be bringing you Hunter’s answers later, but for now here is what we found out from Charles!
We all know what the front cover of Pets is going to look like. callum91 of our forums has found some images of what the backs of some of the releases will look!

Playstation 2

Nintendo DS

Nintendo Gameboy
As well, MaxoidMoonBelly has updated her blog and includes some comments on the new Create A Pet screen.
Seeming to be a new trend with Sims 2 related products, you can buy Sims 2 Pets via the EADownloader. While you may be able to download the game prior to release (as with Glamour), you will not be able to play it until release day.
As callum91 pointed out, thesims2.co.uk gave us a little update today, giving us something of an insider view of the press conference for the upcoming expansion, including a few pictures.
Chances are you weren’t at the recent EA UK Press Event for The Sims 2 Pets - after all, it was only for press! We had quite a variety of press people there - News Round, Rapture TV, the Daily Star… all sorts. But just because you couldn’t be there doesn’t mean we can’t show you what it was like.
As I pointed out in article on Wednesday courtesy of callum91, Pets for the Mac is coming. Today, Macworld posted an article that confirms Pets for the Mac will be out soon after the PC version.
Aspyr Media — which recently overhauled its Web site with a fresh new look and lots more media content — announced Thursday plans to publish a Mac version of the expansion pack “The Sims 2 Pets,” and should have it on store shelves within about two weeks or so of the Windows version’s release. EA plans the Windows release in late October, Aspyr plans the Mac release in early November.
callum91 pointed out that amazon.co.uk is currently offering a pre-order for a Mac version of the upcoming Pets expansion. The release date is stated as November 1st on this page, but the date may be subject to change.
He also shared this new image with me

So many updates already today - and part two of our exclusive look into Pets is still to come!
KKai of the S2C forums let us know about a few new Pets videos today. You can view them at the following urls:
Gamespot Gameplay Video
Gamespot Gameplay Video 2
Gamespot Gameplay Video 3
When we let you know about the play.com Star Dalmation pre-order bonus, there was only a small little image to go with it. Now we have a slightly better picture of this cute dog to show you.

callum91 pointed out this new pets picture to me this morning. In it you can see a few new pet-related wants and fears.

Stay tuned for another insider update tonight!
KKai has brought it to my attention that the article I mentioned in the last update at the italian website actually seems to be about playing Pets on a cell phone or PDA, and not the pets expansion itself.
After watching the Pets Producer video, I’ll bet you’re wondering how to keep pets from destroying your simmies homes. The last issue of the Pets Training Paper showed us how to create new pets, this issue is all about how to train and build relationships with your pet.
Learned or Reinforced Behaviors
Start with the basics. There is no point trying to teach Prince to play dead if he isn’t even potty-trained. Teaching Sim pets acceptable behaviors is the first step in helping them get along with their Sim families. These behaviors include where to relieve their bladders, what foods to eat, and more.

Talk about it in our forums.
Maxis has made two producer walkthrough videos for Pets - one for the console version and one for the PC version. You can view them as follows:
Pets for PC - high bandwidth
Pets for PC - low bandwidth
Pets for console - high bandwidth
Pets for console - low bandwidth
You do need Quicktime or an Quicktime alternative plugin to view these movies.
As always, please feel free to discuss this on our forums.

Wondering where to pre-order your copy of the new Pets expansion to ensure you get an exclusive pre-order bonus? Well the official site has put up a page and promises to keep it updated if more bonuses become available. See it here.
For those not already in the know, GameStop and CompUSA are offering the bandit cat while amazon offers the purple pug we talked about earlier. There has been much discussion on our forums as to how these pre-order bonuses will be available after seeing this from Maxis
After you purchase the game you’ll receive a code plus directions letting you know how to use the code to unlock the pet within the game itself (this is not a downloadable item). Feel free to share your thoughts on this - but please remember that discussing ways to illegally obtain things is not permitted.
I know, I know - you’ve been hearing about this for days already. However, thanks (once again!) to callum91 of our forums, I’m bringing you some interesting information from a new article!
New Zealand’s EAplay site has an article about the Pets soundtrack you can read, but the interesting part is what was noticed near the very end of the article:
The Sims 2 Pets will be available on October 17, 2006 on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube™ and as a PC expansion pack(1) that builds on the original The Sims 2 PC game experience. Versions for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), Game Boy® Advance and Nintendo DS™ systems will follow in late October and November. A mobile version will be coming soon.
Sims 2 Pets on your cell phone? Sounds like it could be a reality! Chat about it on our forums
Thanks to callum91 of our forums, we have some new information. As has been the case with the pre-order items for various expansions you are given a code and a url to go to which allows you to download said bonus item. However, with the Pets expansion they’re changing things up a bit!
As quoted from the order info on the official site:
Purchase The Sims 2 Pets from one of the retailers above to unlock an exclusive pet for your Sims! After you purchase the game you’ll receive a code plus directions letting you know how to use the code to unlock the pet within the game itself (this is not a downloadable item). This special offer is only available for a limited time while supplies last, so buy your copy of The Sims 2 Pets and secure your exclusive pet today!

A huge thanks to Trissle over on our forums for finding and posting these for us. These four new movies come to us from Spain, so you can hear a lot of spanish in the background, but there’s english as well explaining things. The movies show off a lot of features including build mode and a dog playing dead. We hope you enjoy them!

We all know that one of the items available via pre-ordering the Pets expansion is a bandit cat. Well today Josephine pointed out to us on the S2C forums that Amazon’s UK site was offering an unlockable purple pug for pre-ordering the expansion.
Thanks to callum91 we can show you what this adorable little pug looks like!

1up.com has been able to play with the latest upcoming expansion and wrote a very amusing review late August. It’s not your usual review and they find out your dogs will eat from dirty litter boxes and other fun stuff.
It’s hard to top The Sims for sheer screwaroundability and amusing emergent behavior. Unfortunately, it’s something that can make the game a tough one to get a handle on without some serious hands-on time. Fortunately, we’ve had some of that time with Sims 2: Pets and used it to tinker around and see just what we can and can’t do with our new friends.
After the long discussion in the EP 4 The Sims 2: Pets thread about what new creature would be introduced, we now have an answer!
It’s Werefish!
No, seriously. Its wolves. But most sims have a healthy fear of the strays that roam your neighborhood at night. But why?
We weren’t able to test this feature out ourselves, but supposedly a wolf bite could lead to an acute case of lycanthropy for your Sims. Yep: Werewolves! ~ Gamespy
