We all know what the front cover of Pets is going to look like. callum91 of our forums has found some images of what the backs of some of the releases will look!

Playstation 2

Nintendo DS

Nintendo Gameboy

As well, MaxoidMoonBelly has updated her blog and includes some comments on the new Create A Pet screen.

Seeming to be a new trend with Sims 2 related products, you can buy Sims 2 Pets via the EADownloader. While you may be able to download the game prior to release (as with Glamour), you will not be able to play it until release day.

As callum91 pointed out, thesims2.co.uk gave us a little update today, giving us something of an insider view of the press conference for the upcoming expansion, including a few pictures.

Chances are you weren’t at the recent EA UK Press Event for The Sims 2 Pets - after all, it was only for press! We had quite a variety of press people there - News Round, Rapture TV, the Daily Star… all sorts. But just because you couldn’t be there doesn’t mean we can’t show you what it was like.

As I pointed out in article on Wednesday courtesy of callum91, Pets for the Mac is coming. Today, Macworld posted an article that confirms Pets for the Mac will be out soon after the PC version.

Aspyr Media — which recently overhauled its Web site with a fresh new look and lots more media content — announced Thursday plans to publish a Mac version of the expansion pack “The Sims 2 Pets,” and should have it on store shelves within about two weeks or so of the Windows version’s release. EA plans the Windows release in late October, Aspyr plans the Mac release in early November.

callum91 pointed out that amazon.co.uk is currently offering a pre-order for a Mac version of the upcoming Pets expansion. The release date is stated as November 1st on this page, but the date may be subject to change.

So many updates already today - and part two of our exclusive look into Pets is still to come!

KKai of the S2C forums let us know about a few new Pets videos today. You can view them at the following urls:

  • More complete Pets Trailer
    Gamespot Gameplay Video
    Gamespot Gameplay Video 2
    Gamespot Gameplay Video 3
  • When we let you know about the play.com Star Dalmation pre-order bonus, there was only a small little image to go with it. Now we have a slightly better picture of this cute dog to show you.

callum91 pointed out this new pets picture to me this morning. In it you can see a few new pet-related wants and fears.

Stay tuned for another insider update tonight!

KKai has brought it to my attention that the article I mentioned in the last update at the italian website actually seems to be about playing Pets on a cell phone or PDA, and not the pets expansion itself.

callum91 of our forums has brought a few new things to my attention. Firstly we have two new pictures to share:

Also, there’s a new article from an italian magazine that you can read here - you can translate it via google if needed.

Thanks to callum91 of our forums, we can show you what the pre-order bonus dalmation looks like:

This bonus comes from pre-ordering with play.com.

The first order of business is in regards to the sims 2 mobile game (yes, you can have sims on your cell phone as well!

Who said there was no-one playing mobile phone games? It seems that some of you are!

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world’s leading interactive entertainment software company, today announced that The Sims(TM) 2 has reached more than 1 million fans in Europe who have downloaded the game onto their mobiles within the first seven months of release.

You can read the rest of the article here

Secondly, a partnership has been made to bring sims 2 and pogo.com games to inflight entertainment.

Electronic Arts the world’s leading interactive entertainment software company and DTI Software, the market leader in In-Flight Entertainment (IFE), today announced a global partnership that will bring The Sims(TM) 2 and Poppit!(TM), Word Whomp(TM), Phlinx, Tri-Peaks Solitaire, Harvest Mania, Tumble Bees, Great Escapes Solitaire and Turbo 21(TM) from Pogo.com(TM) to airlines

    You can read more here.

After watching the Pets Producer video, I’ll bet you’re wondering how to keep pets from destroying your simmies homes. The last issue of the Pets Training Paper showed us how to create new pets, this issue is all about how to train and build relationships with your pet.

    Learned or Reinforced Behaviors
Start with the basics. There is no point trying to teach Prince to play dead if he isn’t even potty-trained. Teaching Sim pets acceptable behaviors is the first step in helping them get along with their Sim families. These behaviors include where to relieve their bladders, what foods to eat, and more.

Read the rest of Issue II, click here…

Talk about it in our forums.

Maxis has made two producer walkthrough videos for Pets - one for the console version and one for the PC version. You can view them as follows:

Pets for PC - high bandwidth
Pets for PC - low bandwidth

Pets for console - high bandwidth
Pets for console - low bandwidth

You do need Quicktime or an Quicktime alternative plugin to view these movies.

As always, please feel free to discuss this on our forums.

kirst6pe notified us of yet another pre-order bonus item. Play.com is offering a dalmation dog if you pre-order with them

Exclusive PLAY.COM ‘Star Dalmatian’. Pre-Order the Sims 2 Pets on PC, PS2 or GameCube and get this amazing Star Dalmatian completely free! You will be emailed a code on the day of release which will unlock this pet in the game.

No picture is available as of yet.

Ever been annoyed that your cutaway wall setting cuts away too much? Have a hard time bringing walls up for pictures and then finding a good shot without getting stuck outside the house? Well fear no more - the wonderful Numenor brings us a brand new “No-CutAway” wall. This is a custom wall (and it won’t overwrite any of the maxis walls) that enables you to have walls of your choice stay up even while you have the cut-away view enabled. Just place it instead of the normal walls in areas you don’t want the walls to be cut!

dollface directed us to this very sweet kitten video she found on youtube. You can comment about it here

WillStefan found an article by IGN today and posted about it on our forums. It turns out that The Sims 3 being in development is actually older news! In the article that IGN wrote (which is actually dated January 2006) it seems another “leak” made people aware of the games development. A short quote from the article states:

Though EA may not be ready to talk about a Sims 3 at this point — after all, The Sims 2 is still in the prime of life — we have little reason to doubt a third title is in the works. Of course, the design work that the above companies would contribute usually comes early in the development process, meaning The Sims 3, if it’s in the works, is likely still years away.

As I said on the forums, I really don’t see the game coming out for another 3 years or so. When it does I’m sure we’ll be blown away by it. For now, have fun in Sims2 and don’t worry about your computer specs - the current game has a lot more life left in it yet. Let us know what you think about The Sims 3.

MTV.com has an article up called What’s the Coolest Job ever?”. Normally that wouldn’t be too interesting here, however … this time it’s a little different. You see, they’ve interviewed a summer intern who passed along an interesting tidbit …

The room where she set up was darkened by dropped blinds, most of them dotted with spent ammunition from the floor’s many Nerf gun battles. On the walls, signs addressed the staff of another under-wraps EA game: “Welcome ‘Sims 3′ team.”

An interesting bit of news, now we know for sure that The Sims 3 is in development. Feel free to discuss this on our forums

Ever wished you could type in Simlish or just create realistic posters for your game? Well, now you can! Thanks to SIMale of MTS2, you can now download your very own Simlish Font. Surprise your friends, confuse your enemies and impress your mom - all with this great new font!

Wondering where to pre-order your copy of the new Pets expansion to ensure you get an exclusive pre-order bonus? Well the official site has put up a page and promises to keep it updated if more bonuses become available. See it here.

For those not already in the know, GameStop and CompUSA are offering the bandit cat while amazon offers the purple pug we talked about earlier. There has been much discussion on our forums as to how these pre-order bonuses will be available after seeing this from Maxis

After you purchase the game you’ll receive a code plus directions letting you know how to use the code to unlock the pet within the game itself (this is not a downloadable item). This special offer is only available for a limited time while supplies last, so buy your copy of The Sims 2 Pets and secure your exclusive pet today!

Feel free to share your thoughts on this - but please remember that discussing ways to illegally obtain things is not permitted.

Max3D has added an offline version of his Random character generator program (found here) that will come in very handy. It’s in beta currently and you need to install the .NET 2.0 framework to use it. It’s currently in italian (pending translation) but it’s pretty obvious what is what.

For those who don’t want a local install of this you can still click the ‘RCC’ button on the menu to use the online version

I know, I know - you’ve been hearing about this for days already. However, thanks (once again!) to callum91 of our forums, I’m bringing you some interesting information from a new article!

New Zealand’s EAplay site has an article about the Pets soundtrack you can read, but the interesting part is what was noticed near the very end of the article:

The Sims 2 Pets will be available on October 17, 2006 on the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube™ and as a PC expansion pack(1) that builds on the original The Sims 2 PC game experience. Versions for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), Game Boy® Advance and Nintendo DS™ systems will follow in late October and November. A mobile version will be coming soon.

Sims 2 Pets on your cell phone? Sounds like it could be a reality! Chat about it on our forums

Thanks to callum91 of our forums, we have some new information. As has been the case with the pre-order items for various expansions you are given a code and a url to go to which allows you to download said bonus item. However, with the Pets expansion they’re changing things up a bit!

As quoted from the order info on the official site:

Purchase The Sims 2 Pets from one of the retailers above to unlock an exclusive pet for your Sims! After you purchase the game you’ll receive a code plus directions letting you know how to use the code to unlock the pet within the game itself (this is not a downloadable item). This special offer is only available for a limited time while supplies last, so buy your copy of The Sims 2 Pets and secure your exclusive pet today!

Talk about it on our forums.

higgins534 pointed out on our forums that there’s finally somewhat more official news about the holiday pack. sims2.se has a little blurb about it and a couple cover art pictures. It looks like once again the base game will be sold with the holiday pack included. The official site (in english) has also added a little blurb on their front page. Of course, in true maxian style we are just told to stay tuned for more information. As we’ve known for a while, the release date for this is supposed to be November 7th - of course this could change.

It’s also been brought to my attention that another little slip happened recently - apparently there’s rumblings of a new “The Sims2: In Season” item. The Maxoids have denied this in the official bbs thread regarding it - the thread is now locked. However, one has to wonder if it was just a blunder and is in the very least a working title. However, as you can see in the screenshot I took EA let the cat out of the bag - see it yourself (until it’s removed) here.

Maybe we’ll get weather that works properly (and not indoors) after all! It would be amazing to have properly working seasons in the game.

Discuss the upcoming holiday pack on our forums. The in season blunder can also be discussed here.

Numenor has done another marvelous update of the CEP (Colour Enable Package) and it now boasts an optional install of the “Radiance Lighting Mod” by GunMod. Get your CEP update here!

A huge thanks to Trissle over on our forums for finding and posting these for us. These four new movies come to us from Spain, so you can hear a lot of spanish in the background, but there’s english as well explaining things. The movies show off a lot of features including build mode and a dog playing dead. We hope you enjoy them!

We all know that one of the items available via pre-ordering the Pets expansion is a bandit cat. Well today Josephine pointed out to us on the S2C forums that Amazon’s UK site was offering an unlockable purple pug for pre-ordering the expansion.

Thanks to callum91 we can show you what this adorable little pug looks like!

1up.com has been able to play with the latest upcoming expansion and wrote a very amusing review late August. It’s not your usual review and they find out your dogs will eat from dirty litter boxes and other fun stuff.

It’s hard to top The Sims for sheer screwaroundability and amusing emergent behavior. Unfortunately, it’s something that can make the game a tough one to get a handle on without some serious hands-on time. Fortunately, we’ve had some of that time with Sims 2: Pets and used it to tinker around and see just what we can and can’t do with our new friends.

Dog eat your manual? Can’t find the case for your game? Well if you’re one of the many people who have somehow misplaced a serial number, fear no more! OtherworldBob has told us in this thread on MTS2 all about his amazing new program. The Sims 2 Serial Key Printer will check your registry for you and dig out your serial numbers for the game, displaying them all in an easy to read screen. You can currently get the program in the MTS2 thread linked above. He’ll also have it on his website, where newer versions will be updated first.

It seems the story keeps changing on a daily basis. Today we have a blog update by MaxoidMoonBelly stating:

For those of you who saw my bbs post this past weekend, I just wanted to say that I made a mistake with the information that I have given out - I am truly sorry for misleading people, I didn’t have all my facts straight at all !!!! Hang in there !!!!

So we’ll have to see what’s to come with the whole “The Sims 2: Get a Life Edition”, feel free to discuss this on our Get a Life thread

After the long discussion in the EP 4 The Sims 2: Pets thread about what new creature would be introduced, we now have an answer!

    It’s Werefish!

No, seriously. Its wolves. But most sims have a healthy fear of the strays that roam your neighborhood at night. But why?

We weren’t able to test this feature out ourselves, but supposedly a wolf bite could lead to an acute case of lycanthropy for your Sims. Yep: Werewolves! ~ Gamespy

callum91 brought it to our attention today that he’s found a page regarding the expansion pack combo that was supposed to be available this month. Dick Smith Electronics has it available on their website, you can see it here simply titled Sims 2 Expansion 4 pack. It’s priced at NZ $118 and claims to include University, Nightlife, Open for Business and Family Fun. It doesn’t seem to include the base game but it may - it’s hard to tell with the information given on that page.

Of course this gives us a little more mystery in regards to the ‘Get A Life’ edition that’s to come next year. You can talk about this new expansion pack bundle on our forums.

A few days ago we shared some new information with you regarding an interesting new Sims2 product appearing, called “The Sims 2: Get a Life”. At the time, online retailers including this item on their product pages had a release date of September 29th. MaxoidMoonBelly even confirmed this as being an EA/Maxis product and not just a rumour - saying more information would be forthcoming. We all waited with expectation, as it seemed very odd to the majority of us that this extra title was popping up right in between a stuff pack and an upcoming expansion pack. People thought that perhaps Maxis was trying to give us too much too fast.

Well, today I discovered that South Africa based Take2 has The Sims 2: Get A Life Edition listed as available to pre-order with an expected date of February 6th 2007 and not the first reported date of September 29th.

Still in the air is exactly what this is. It could be an upcoming expansion or some sort of multi-pack including the base game and some or all of the expansions and/or stuff packs released. It could be a stuff pack, but most of them seem to have the word ’stuff’ in the title, so the odds of that are much lower. We’ll all have to wonder until we have the official word from Maxis.

For now, feel free to discuss this in the currently ongoing thread in our forums: Get A Life Discussion

Create the perfect model for the new Sims2Community banner!

Do you think that one of your Sims would be the perfect model? Are you just curious to see who from the community is entering their Sims? LyricLee is running a contest to pick a Sim to represent Sims2Community and be featured on our new banner. Applications are only being accepted until September 8th. Check out the contest here…

There’s rumor of another Sims 2 product that has a release date of Sept 29th 2006. So what is this release? Well, the Australian game store GameHead has this product with only a date and price listed - both The Sims Zone and Planet The Sims have articles linking to the product listing.

But is this just a rumor or a real release from EA/Maxis?

    MaxoidMoonBelly had this to say:
“hello! It is a legitimate EA/Sims product, more information will be coming out soon.”

The full thread at the TheSims2 site can be read here.

Our LyricLee has kindly taken a whole bunch of in-game screenshots of the new clothes and objects from Glamour Life. Check out her pics here: http://forums.sims2community.com/showthread.php?t=24542
